Teletherapy allows speech and language therapy services to be provided remotely through a secure video connection. It gives individuals and families an opportunity to participate in therapy from home or another appropriate location while meeting with a speech-language pathologist in real time.

During a teletherapy session, the therapist may use conversation, visual materials, interactive activities, demonstrations, and guided practice to address communication goals. Depending on the needs of the individual, therapy may focus on areas such as speech sound production, language development, fluency, voice, social communication, cognitive-communication skills, or other speech and language concerns.
For children, teletherapy can also provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to become more involved in the treatment process. A speech-language pathologist may demonstrate strategies that families can use during everyday routines, helping therapy techniques carry over beyond the scheduled session.
Teletherapy can be especially convenient for individuals who have difficulty traveling to an office, live farther from a therapy location, or simply benefit from receiving services in a familiar environment. However, teletherapy is not necessarily the best option for every person or every type of treatment. The appropriateness of remote therapy depends on the individual's needs, goals, ability to participate, insurance authorization, and the services being provided.
At Pam Manser & Associates, our goal is to help individuals communicate as effectively and confidently as possible. When appropriate, teletherapy can provide another way to connect individuals and families with speech and language services while maintaining personalized, goal-directed care.
We’ll be adding more information about teletherapy and remote speech-language services soon.
